Cerebras System has given the official status of the Wafer Scale Engine 2 generation (WSE-2) processor, the official announcement of which took place in August of last year. This monster chip is released on a 7-nm tech process at TSMC factories, has an area of more than 46 thousand. mm² and estimates 2.6 trillion transistors. If you compare with its predecessor, all the key CPU parameters have grown more than twice.
Cerebras WSE-2 is intended for calculations in the field of machine learning and artificial intelligence. It contains 850 thousand cores, 40 gigabytes of buffer SRAM memory with a bandwidth of 20 Pbytes / s.
The processor itself is divided into a number of small blocks, for connections of which is used an internal network with a capacity of 200 Pbit / s. It also allows you to avoid various defects, so Cerebras laid 1.5% of additional nuclei for discarding. The power consumption of the chips is stated at the level of 15 kW.
The Cerebras WSE-2 processor will be available on the CS-2 supercomputer, which will launch in the third quarter of this year. Information about the cost of this system has not arrived, but it will probably not be one million dollars.
